Chevre,

I am excited to share with you, this coming Friday night, the life and work of my cousin, Chuckie, an Israeli artist with a unique oeuvre, as he approaches his ninetieth birthday. Born in Chicago, Chuckie studied at the Art Institute before making aliyah in the early years of statehood. Working through a variety of media – painting, woodcut and sculpture among them – Chuckie’s vision has been informed by the Bible, the Holocaust, and the loss of a daughter to terrorists. He applies his primitive style alike to biblical and contemporary scenes. Last year, friends of his created a documentary titled “Let There Be Fire,” which was featured at a festival in Tel Aviv; we will watch the English-language version. Following the 30 minute film we will have the opportunity for discussion.
